Rye straw from the Vall del Bac (La Badosa)
Vall d’en bas Culture and Nature Center – Can Trona
Installation with Garrotxa rye straw weaving using the popular himmeli technique, a craft from the Nordic countries that uses patterns and geometric shapes to create ritual pieces suspended in the air. The octahedron is mainly used, one of the five main Platonic solids, and variations of it. All Platonic solids are associated with an element, and the octahedron is associated with air.
The connection between art, nature and the rural world that the himmeli represents coincides with the objectives of Can Trona – Vall d’en bas Culture and Nature Center. An institution that wants to help spread and preserve artisanal techniques, trades and artistic manifestations of rurality. With this installation we claim that rural context are not outside creation. Many and diverse quality artistic manifestations are produced from non-urban environments.
Some manifestations that, in addition, take on meaning and beauty because they are close to the landscape that inspired them and their imagination and that, therefore, it is good that they are practiced, exhibited and visited here.
The installation was the result of an intensive workshop held in Can Trona in July 2023 with participants from all over Cataloina within the framework of the Sculpture, geometry and astronomy conference.
A special thank you to the collaborators of the conference and all the participants: Mariona Anfruns, Mònica Bada, Maria Boix, Tura Bosch, Anna Colomer, Margarida Coma, Gemma Draper, Sira Goti, Elisabet Insenser, Amàlia López, Cristsina Otero, Agnes Anne, Francesca Piñol, Àngels Sanz, Carla Trepat, Mariona Trepat and Sílvia Verdaguer.
